   - Properties:
- Diethyltoluamide (DEET) is considered the most common active ingredient in insect repellent since
- the 1950's. It's wide spectrum of activity works by blocking insect olfactory receptors.
    - Applications:
- As a repellent (lat. repellere to dispel / to repulse), for skin as well as clothing Diethyltoluamide (DEET)
- effectively "blinds" the insect's senses so that the biting/feeding instinct is not triggered, but not
- killing it. Diethyltoluamide (DEET) acts against biting or pungency arthropods like ticks and bloodsucking,
